15th-Feb-2008 06:01 pm - "In Bruges"
Casablancas

I love "discovering" a good movie.  What I mean by "discovering" is when a movie opens and I haven't heard anything about it or seen a preview of it. I was off today and looked at what was playing at Landmark 8. I saw the listing for "In Bruges" and was intrigued by the plot summary: "Holed up in Bruges, Belgium after a difficult job, two hit men (Farrell and Gleeson) begin to differ on their views of life and death as they become used to local customs." That's all I needed.

The script is well written and the plot fully develops the characters in short order. The movie has some violent moments but no more than the bigger movies out there right now. There are lots of funny moments and some that could make you cry. Colin Farrell reminded me that he can actually act and I always love that big bear of a man, Brendan Gleeson. The two leads had lots of chemistry together. Ralph Fiennes does a splendid job playing an asshole. One thing I really appreciated was that the accents weren't too heavy to understand the dialog lol. A really good movie in every aspect.

...got myself a kidneystone! And it's a big one. Kinda like the asteriod in "Armageddon". Bruce Willis, er, I mean Dr. Scaljon is going to obliterate it in the morning.

I saw this on Fox 5 News and was curious if I would match up with the candidates the way I thought. I was surprised at how off I was with Obama and Edwards (only 58%), otherwise, no surprises. Kucinich was 85%, Clinton was 75%. Duncan Hunter (who?) is 0%. I am the anti-Duncan Hunter.

I put a deposit down on an apartment this morning. Yea! Woo-hoo! Yippee-ki-yay, mf! While I still won't technically be stanvahi since the apartment isn't in Virginia-Highland, at least it is intown and near the park (6 blocks). It is 1 of 4 apartments in a huge 1920s house with central a/c and heat. I don't have a move-in date yet but will probably be the 15th. Can't be too soon.

More later.

I really hate to bitch and moan. Well, ok, I really hate for people to know that I bitch and moan but there's something I've gotta get off my chest. Have you ever just really hated someone for no other reason than their being alive? Every day, sometimes more than once a day, there's a guy I don't know that has started popping up everywhere in my life. At work, bear411, bigmusclebears (no wisecracks about how I got on there) and I see his face grinning at me. It's more of a smirk, really. I just want to claw his eyes out if only because of the smugness behind that grin.  Oh, and when I hit refresh chat list on bear411, his profile is always on the 1st or 2nd page so he's exiting and logging back on so his profile stays near the front. It doesn't help that he has a hot boyfriend who is really sweet. And nice. Brings to mind Lee Ann Womack's song from a few years ago:

I'll Think of a Reason Later
by Nichols and Martin
I heard he was gonna marry some girl from Denver
Then my sister came over, had the Sunday paper with her
There was the girl on the social page
Lookin' in love and all engaged
We decided she don't take a very good picture

It may be my family's redneck nature
Rubbin' off, bringin' out unlady-like behavior
It sure ain't Christian to judge a stranger
But I don't like her
She may be a stranger who spends all winter
Bringin' the homeless blankets and dinner
A regular Nobel Peace Prize winner
But I really hate her
I'll think of a reason later

I drew horns and blacked out her tooth with a marker
Childish, yes, but she made such a thin little target
I couldn't be happier on my own
But I've got the slightest of a jealous bone
And seein' her with him tends to enlarge it

It may be my family's redneck nature
Rubbin' off, bringin' out unlady-like behavior
It sure ain't Christian to judge a stranger
But I don't like her
She may be a stranger who spends all winter
Bringin' the homeless blankets and dinner
A regular Nobel Peace Prize winner
But I really hate her
I'll think of a reason later

Inside her head may lay all the answers
For curin' diseases from baldness to cancer
Salt of the earth and a real good dancer
But I really hate her
I'll think of a reason later

(Spoken) Well, it was just one tooth
Did I mention I don't particularly care for her?
She makes me sick...

Whew! I feel better now.

Some pix of me on vacation taken by others posted in Scrapbook. Gee, I should've taken the Scrapbooking seminars onboard.

I still haven't gotten my camera to talk to my computer so my pix will be posted later.

Well, my 1st vacation in a LONG time is coming to an end. I have been looking forward to the Chumley's Bear Cruise since I first saw it listed on Bear411 in January or February. I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing since I had never been to any bear event or on any cruise before but I had a fantastic time. I met some very nice guys some maybe will become friends, I hope so. Some may be acquaintances whom I see every so often, like on next year's Chumley's Bear Cruise. That is ok, too.

Back to work tomorrow. We have a holiday meeting to get ready for this week's launch of holiday drinks (November 1) and next week's launch of holiday merchandise and red cups! This is a high speed train that doesn't stop until January! Woo! Woo! All aboard!
